This one of a kind, luxuriously soft fleece full zip jacket features an elegant motif of woodland flowers, reimagined in a refined, simplified design by Eva Oldman. Woodland Flowers is part of the Anishinaabe collection proudly showcased at the DIA. Oldman is an accomplished graphic designer who grew up in Harbor Springs, Michigan. She is a tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and also Northern Arapaho from Wind River Reservation.
The Contemporary Anishinaabe Art: A Continuation highlights the ongoing creativity of more than 60 Anishinaabe artists from the Great Lakes region. This major exhibition — the largest of its kind in the Midwest and the first Native American show at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 30 years — redefines how Native American art is seen and understood.
Guided by an advisory council of Ojibwe (Chippewa), Ottawa (Odawa), and Potawatomi (Pottawatomi) artists, the show features over 90 works. These include basketry, beadwork, birchbark, clothing, film, graphic design, jewelry, painting, pottery, sculpture, and woodwork. Together, they showcase the diverse histories and perspectives of the Anishinaabe people. To honor their heritage, gallery labels will also be presented in Anishinaabemowin, the original language of the region.
