This unique Crocodile pendant/brooch was inspired by pre-Columbian artifacts from the collections of the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library. The ruling elite probably wore prestige ornaments such as this one to imbue themselves with the power of crocodiles, fierce animals connected to the underworld for their ability to float on water and drag their prey underneath to drown it.
Coclé is an archaeological culture area of the so-called Intermediate Area in pre-Columbian Central America. This timeless piece not only celebrates a culture with a rich history and artistic heritage, but makes a lasting impression on any ensemble.
Can be worn either as a brooch or pendant. There is a vertical brooch backing and a loop on the back so it can be worn as a pendant. (Chain is not included.)
