Luxury and comfort arrive for the season in this Louis C. Tiffany Peacock shawl. The shawl's rich jewel tones and soft drape make it a wonderfully versatile accessory.
The featured design pattern comes from the Favrile Peacock Vase (circa 1900 -1906) currently in the collection of the New-York Historical Society. The vase stylizes the "eye" of the peacock feather with rich iridescent hues of turquoise and dark teal gradating to a light blue surrounding the eyes, touched with lustrous gold.
A leader of the Art Nouveau movement, Louis C. Tiffany (1902 - 1932) and his designers used his invention of favrile glass to create mouth-blown vases infused with iridescent color. Tiffany was often compelled by the natural world, and this particular peacock motif was used in some of his most important architectural commissions and ornamental vessels.
