Hilma af Klint was a unique and ahead-of-her-time artist. Long before famous abstract painters like Piet Mondrian and Vasily Kandinsky, she created bold, colorful art that moved away from realistic images. Inspired by Spiritualism, she tried to connect art, science, and religion in her work. During her life, she mostly showed her more traditional art because she believed the world wasn’t ready for her abstract series, The Paintings for the Temple. In her will, she asked that her abstract work not be shown until 20 years after her death. Today, her Temple paintings are seen as some of her most creative and experimental work.
