Wear a piece of the DIA with this sterling silver cuff bracelet set with a round circle of authentic crushed granite taken from the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Made from granite removed during the renovation of the north wing of the museum which made way for the completion of the Robert and Katherine Jacobs Asian Wing. The stone material itself came from the demolition of the large staircase that took visitors from the Kirby Lobby to the Contemporary Galleries on the second floor.
Materials like these play an important role in the history of the DIA’s architecture. The addition of the north wing in 1971, designed by the architectural firm Harley, Ellington, Cowin & Stirton, employed the use of a dark granite on the building’s exterior to serve as a backdrop for the original white marble building. During a later renovation, the exterior of both the north and south wings were refaced in the same white marble as the original Cret building, allowing the additions and the original building to appear more unified.
Perfect for anyone with a love for Detroit history, the DIA, or art and architecture.
