Kent Estey is a landscape painter who became a full-time artist after retiring from education in 2022. His work features glowing depictions of sky, land, trees, and water, as well as abstract patterns inspired by nature.
Raised in a family of artists and musicians in Naytahwaush, Minnesota, on the White Earth Reservation, Estey draws inspiration from his ancestral homelands. While he doesn’t directly use traditional Anishinaabe imagery, his paintings reflect the colors, perspectives, and spirit of his culture, showing that contemporary Anishinaabe art can take many forms.
