Windy Girl has a big imagination. From her Uncle, she hears stories about old traditions of dancing, sharing, and gratitude. She also makes up her own stories—often about her dog, Itchy Boy, who loves to dance for treats and wriggle with joy.
At a powwow with Uncle and Itchy Boy, Windy enjoys the dancers, singers, food, and campfire. That night, she dreams of a magical “bowwow powwow,” where dogs take part in all the dances—Grand Entry, grass dancing, jingle-dress dancing, and more.
Written by Brenda Child, with an Ojibwe retelling by Gordon Jourdain and artwork by Jonathan Thunder, this playful story celebrates the beauty and spirit of the powwow.
