A DIA Exclusive!
This set of ten small magnets shows ten different amazing details in Bruegel's masterwork "The Wedding Dance", including Pieter Brugel the Elder's signature, BRVEGEL.
While performing updated imaging and technical examination in 2015 of Bruegel's The Wedding Dance, the Conservation Department of the Detroit Institute of Arts discovered Bruegel's signature BRVEGEL below the visible roman numeral date MDLXVI in the bottom right grassy area of the painting. Up to this time, it was assumed that The Wedding Dance was the only Bruegel painting that was dated but unsigned. This revelation of the signature now brings the inscription in line with all other known Bruegel inscriptions.
The under-drawing was revealed by using a special imaging technique called infrared reflectography (RR) which allows us to see beneath the layers of paint we see under visible light.
Each of 8 magnets measure 7/8" x 7/8" while 2 magnets each measure 1 3/4" x 3/4".
Comes in clear hard plastic case.
