Description

The Eclipse puzzle by Alma Thomas (American, 1891–1978) is a beautiful, uplifting image and a challenging addition to your own puzzle collection or gift for your favorite puzzle fan.

Freshly inspired by the 1969 moon landing, exuberant colorist Alma Thomas created the glowing, mosaic-like work The Eclipse, 1970, part of her Space paintings series. Thomas began painting after retiring from nearly 40 years of teaching in Washington, DC, and she explored Expressionist, Abstract, and nonobjective phases of art.

Her mature style features bold, splashy paintings inspired by nature and the happenings of her day. She was an artist of indomitable spirit. As a Black woman, she overcame hurdles related to race, gender, and age; she produced her most important works after age 70. Thomas is known as a major painter of the Washington Color Field School.

Thoughtfully conceived, this 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle combines superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight novice and veteran puzzle workers alike.
