The inspiration for this luxurious tree-and-flower print silk scarf is an early 18-century Chinese porcelain monteith, a type of bowl with a notched rim which combines typical Eastern ornamentation with European details meant to appeal to a Western market.
This scarf has motifs of a sprawling tree, blossoming flowers, and fish which are painted in overglaze famille verte enamels (a Chinese palette of color in which shades of green predominate), and gilt.
With a delicately stitched hem, the attention to detail and fine quality is impeccable.
