Description

Treasures from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Detroit Institute of Arts

In honor of the centenary of Mr. Ralph C. Wilson, Jr.'s birth, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Detroit Institute of Arts have co-organized the exhibition, Humble and Human: Treasures from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Detroit Institute of Arts, which is on view at the Detroit Institute of Arts from June 26 — October 13, 2019.

This accompanying exhibition catalog presents more than forty paintings and sculptures, dating from the mid-nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries, along with a lively essay by Richard. R. Brettell, one of the world's foremost scholar of the Impressionist era. From works by Gustave Courbet and Édouard Manet to those by Claude Monet, Bethe Morisot, Vincent van Gogh, and Paul Cézanne, the book and exhibition capture the revolutionary nature of the well-loved period in the history of art through masterpieces from two extraordinary collections.
