Inspired by Suzuki Kiitsu’s Reeds and Cranes, in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts, this hand-painted, limited edition ornament is a one-of-a-kind memento based on a pair of folding screens depicting Manchurian cranes among water reeds.
Each ornament is hand-painted on the inside of the glass; each one a unique result of the artist’s hand.
The Detroit Institute of Arts Shop released this ornament in 2018, the third in a series of collectible ornaments inspired by art in the collection. The inaugural ornament, an homage to Fra Angelico's Annunciatory Angel, was revealed in 2016, and is now retired. The second ornament in the series, released in 2017, features Metcalf's The White Veil and is also retired.
