Description

This left facing Songbird in Jade was inspired by a book jacket cover by Talwin Morris, who designed for English publisher Blackie and Sons in the late 19th century. Morris was connected to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and known for his Glasgow Style.

For over 20 years, the artisans at Motawi Tileworks have hand-crafted art tile in their Ann Arbor, Michigan, studio. These distinctive tiles are known for their rich glazes and and uniquely American designs, inspired by nature, art and architecture. Unlike mass-produced tile, the unique design, beautiful craftsmanship, and affordability of Motawi tile allows people to own and enjoy real art, which won’t go out of style and will last for generations.

Polychrome tiles have many colors separated by a tiny ridge of clay and are made by pooling the glazes with bulb syringes into the areas delineated by the tiny ridges of clay.

On the back you will find the Motawi Tileworks stamp and the signature of the tilemaker.

Actual tile size: 3-13/16" x 7-13/16".

Tiles are 5/8" thick and have a notch at the back for hanging.

Made in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
